MIGRANTS

I have witnessed flamingos on a trip to Yala National Park when I was a kid. When I started wildlife photography, I always wanted to capture them, but I was really busy with my studies. In April 2022 I started a trip to Jaffna with my family and my girlfriend’s family. One day of our trip was dedicated to go to delft island in search of wild horses. While on our way to delft island, I saw a flock of white birds in a far distance. I immediately asked our driver to stop. Then I took my camera and took a few photographs. I noticed that they are flamingos. But unfortunately, we had to continue our journey to Delft Island because of the arrangements that have been previously made. So, we planned to give it a shot on our way back. Luckily the birds were there when we returned there. But we couldn’t find a way to reach the flock. After asking from few of the locals, one of them agreed to guide us there. My father joined the hike. After nearly half an hour’s walk, we reached the nearest point to the flock, which was pretty distant as well. After a few minutes, a sub-flock flew towards me and landed at a close distance. We spent around 20 minutes with the flock and they joined the others.
