APEX HUNTERS
Sri Lankan leopards are carnivorous and primarily feed on a variety of prey species, including sambar deer, barking deer, wild boar, monkeys, porcupines, and smaller mammals such as rodents. They are opportunistic hunters and will also prey on domestic livestock if the opportunity arises. The leopards are primarily nocturnal and are most active during the early morning and late afternoon, with a peak activity period at dawn and dusk. They are also known to rest during the day in dense vegetation or rocky outcrops. The hunting strategy of Sri Lankan leopards involves stalking and ambushing their prey, and they use their exceptional strength and agility to bring down their prey. The leopards are also known to scavenge on the remains of larger kills made by other predators such as tigers or wild dogs. The eating patterns of Sri Lankan leopards are generally irregular and depend on the availability of prey in their immediate surroundings.
